Thumbplay, a mobile multimedia content provider, has raised $18 million in a fifth round Series E funding. Venture capital firms are among the investors, which include Softbank Capital, i-Hatch Ventures and Verizon Investments.
The company has more than 80,000 mobile entertainment content downloads available, which include ringtones, games, wallpapers, videos, voice tones and cell phone text services. Thumbplay is also now providing mobile content for large online portals like AOL and MSN. Recently, Thumbplay has reached a digital distribution agreement with Sony BMG Music which helped the company to expand it's current ringtone and mobile content offerings. They have also been experimenting with both the D2C and white-label model as the company expands beyond just selling ringtones.
