The next wave of ultra hip ringtones are here... and they're cool new video ringtones. Not only do you get your favorite music to ring when you get a call, but it will also playback video at the same time. iFoneTec has developed what they are calling VideosTone for the iPhone. Video tones are essentially, iphone compatible videos that play whenever someone calls. What's neat is that you will be able to assign designated video ringtones on your Contact list.  So for different friends and family you can assign different video tones.

Maybe one of the weirdest things the Japanese have come up with to date. Ringtones for Dogs...   

A Tokyo-based content provider named Dwango announced today that it would start selling specialized ringtones which can be heard only by dogs. The service, called Inu ni shika kikoenai chakushinon (ringtones only dogs can hear) will make free downloads available to current DoCoMo i-mode subscribers.

Ringtones.org sold for a pretty nice chunk of change at $120,000 recently.  Moniker announced that the highly sought after ringtones domain name was sold via an auction with both in person bids, and online bids with the help SnapNames Live.  The domain name auction also had about 105  other domains that were bought for an average sale price of around $24,000. The auction took place over a four hour time period.

Music fans who sign up for Dada are given tokens that can be redeemed for one download of a ringtone, or other mobile content such as wallpapers and games. In addition, and as an alternative to downloading only mobile content, Dada members now have the option to download full song tracks in MP3 format to their computer. Thee MP3 tracks can then subsequently be transferred to any mobile phone, iPod or digital music player. Dada Mobile expects to be able to offer users over-the-air MP3 downloads to mobile devices in the coming months.

SONY BMG's catalog is currently available through the network, and the joint venture expects to add content from other labels in the near future.

The service is currently available to users from AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Alltel, Virgin, Cellular One, Boost, Cricket, and Nextel.

Who would have thought that cell phone ringtones would try and be banned by Islamic militants in Pakistan's tribal areas.  But that's exactly what militants are now trying to do in tribal areas around Pakistan and Afghanistan. For what ever reason, these militants have something against mobile music.  Do militants have any fun? Nah...  

This is just another reason to load up your cell phone with the hottest music ringtones and have a little fun. Life's too short to abide by absolutely stupid rules like these. I say screw any rules that don't want you listening to awesome music on your cell phone!!! Ringtones are GREAT!

The Hills hottie, Audrina Patridge recently revealed her favorite ringtones that are on her cell phone.  The MTV reality star said she's into “Shadow of the Day” by Linkin Park, “Flashing Lights” by Kanye West, and “Won’t Go Home Without You” by Maroon 5.

The Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) have come out with a new awards program for music ringtones. The CRIA ringtone awards have a platinum certification for ringtones which sell more than 40,000 tones, as well as a gold certification for ringtones that sell more than 20,000 ringtone tracks.

So far 43 ringtones have been certified Platinum, with 15 reaching "double platinum", and 17 ringtones received gold staus. The president of the CRIA, was quoted as saying that ringtones of original songs made approximately 45 percent of Canada's digital music sales in 2007.

It's now easy to download Top selling ringtones from Canadian Ringtone carriers like "Smack That" by Akon, and "Sexy Back," by Justin Timberlake.

Cell phone users are beginning to realize that they no longer have to go to their carrier for mobile entertainment content. In fact, today third party venders such as Thumbplay, DadaMobile and Blinko offer users access to a ton more mobile content like ringtones, mobile games and video downloads, which carriers are unlikely to have.  Mobile Entertainment providers like Thumbplay have partnered with many of the biggest record producers, which allow them to offer ten's of thousands of songs from the hottest music artists out today, as well as more obscure music and sounds.

All this is leading to the major cell phone carriers no longer being able to act as the sole gatekeepers of mobile content.  Now users are able to choose for themselves what service they want to use to download ringtones, videos and mobile games to their phones.  As the large carriers lose their grip on mobile content, it only means consumers will be in a better position to get high quality mobile content for their cell phones. 

Fall Out Boy realeased a new single titled "Beat It" featuring John Mayer on guitar.  The song is a cover of Michael Jackson's hit 80's song Beat It. The song is definitely rockin' and the guitar solos are pretty siiick! The song is lighting up the Billboard 100 and is currently a hot new release coming in at #22.  What's really hot is that you can now get this "Beat It Ringtone" as your cell phones ringtone.
