That night was disappointing for him as he lost all the five awards that he was nominated for, including Best Male Artist and Video of the Year. When the show ended, he was visibly shattered that he had lost at the VMAs in two consecutive years. He vowed never to return to MTV. He appeared on several radio stations stating that at the time of making "Stronger", he dreamt of opening the VMAs with it. He suggested that his race was the excuse for not winning any VMA awards and for not opening the ceremony in approval of Britney Spears. He claimed," Maybe my skin's not right."
